Sitting with Grief

Grief is not a problem to be solved. It is love with nowhere to go — and it asks only to be witnessed.

When someone arrives carrying a loss, I do not rush to make it lighter. We begin by letting it be exactly as heavy as it is. In TAT, we hold a few gentle points on the head and simply bring awareness to what is here: the ache, the memory, the part of us that is still bracing against what happened.

Something softens when grief is finally allowed to take up space. Not because the loss is smaller, but because we are no longer alone with it. The nervous system, which has been holding its breath, begins to exhale.

There is a quiet will to live again that lives underneath even the deepest sorrow. We do not force it. We make room, and we wait — and in time, it returns on its own.
